can o worms resurrected

Rob and I set up the can o worms composter... I ordered some really nice red wigglers from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm, and they arrived in the mail yesterday! We mixed some shredded, dampened newspaper with kitchen scraps, and set them loose.

Hi Katie,

Good to see your new worms settling in and that you have added plent of paper. You should add 25-30% dry material, which can even include things like vacuum cleaner dust from natural fibre carpets and pet hair.

Yay, someone is using one of these! I've been wanting to get one, live in Brooklyn with a tiny "garden" and no additional space in my apartment. Any ideas?

How is the maintenance so far?

These can be used indoors, or you could convert a small plastic tote... outdoors that is. I had one like that on my fire escape! The worms just seem to hibernate in the colder months. So far, the can o worms is great... the worms are tearing through it which keeps us cooking at home to provide the kitchen scraps! It's mutually beneficial! We plan on starting some more worm farms, one at the nursery...
